On 24th Thursday November one of Sierra Leone  renowned print journalist, Thomas Josephus Dixon posted on Face Book page  that ” Hon. Abdul Kargbo has apologized to the people of Sierra Leone particularly the Deputy Minister of Justice, Umaru Napoleon Koroma for the Un-Parliamentary Act of MPs “.

Responding to the  post, the Secretary General of the Interim Transitional Governance Committee of the All-People’s Congress (APC) party, Hon. Abdul Kargbo told the Truth Team that he made the apology on behalf of Members of Parliament  during the Radio Democracy 98.1 Good Morning Salone program to the people of Sierra Leone and the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice for the un-parliamentary Act of MPs.

He noted that the altercation could have been avoided  if there was a negotiation from the Speaker of Parliament, adding that many critical laws have been passed as a result of negotiations.

It could be recalled that on Wednesday 23rd November 2022,  there was an altercation between Members of Parliament from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party and main opposition All People’s Congress parties. According to report from various media outlets , the unfortunate brawl has to do with a proposed change to the electoral system to allow for proportional representation in the 2023 general elections.

It was reported that the incident was captured by the official CCTV cameras of parliament as well as private videos were circulated on various media platforms across the world according to the statement from the Speaker, Hon. Dr Chernor Abass Bundu. The police intervened to calm down the riotous scene and expel disruptive MPs from the chamber.

The main perpetrators included  Honourable Aron Aruna Koroma of Constituency 048 ,Honourable Lahai Marah of  Constituency 042, and Honourable Abdul Karim Kamara of Constituency 059.
