Unrestricted prisoners-also known as remand prisoners are held in custody before their trial on criminal charges; in strict legal theory, remand prisoners are only held to guarantee that they are present for their trials; the law does not regard their imprisonment as punishment.

However, on Wednesday 23rd November 2022 the Managing Director of Sky Bank, Sierra Leone, Ikubolaje Nicole was arraigned at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown presided by Magistrate Marke Ngegba with a 3 count charges relating to murder allegations of his girlfriend.

After the charges were read to the accused and explained, the accused did not enter a plea because it was a felony.

The prosecuting team comprise the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Easmond N. B Ngagui, and six state attorneys, whilst the accused was without a legal representation.

However, the defendant revealed that Roland Wright will represent him.

Easmond N. B. Ngagui, the lead prosecutor and also the director of public prosecution (DPP), informed the bench that their witness was not present in court. As a result, he asked for an adjournment.  The defendant was remanded and the case was adjourned to November 30th, 2022.

The Skye Bank MD was not sent to jail he was remanded.

Also, at Magistrate Court level you can’t make bail plea for murder even if his lawyer was present, he won’t have made that plea. The contention with the post is that he was not sent to jail, but remanded as the case. It is a deliberate misinformation because the t adjourned date was not stated on the post and it was presented as if the case has been concluded and the defendant has been convicted.

Ikubolaji Nicol was charged to court for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, who was an employee of the bank. There are still huge controversy over her death. According to the police, the accused person, Ikubolaje Nicole, on diverse dates between the 15th and 16th October 2022, at Leicester Village, Western Area, in Freetown, conspired together with other persons unknown to murder Sinnah Kai Kargbo.

Police also alleged that the accused person, Ikubolaje Nicole, on the 16th October, 2022 at Leicester Village, Western Area, in Freetown, murdered Sinnah Kai Kargbo. Police added that on the 17th October, 2022, at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the accused person fabricated evidence with intent to pervert the course of justice.

Consequently, police slammed three counts charges of conspiracy to murder contrary to Section 4 of the Offences Against the Person’s Act 1816, murder contrary to law, and perverting the course of justice contrary to law.
